Commercial wallcovering is sold by the linear yard: 3 feet measured along the length of the roll, at the roll's full width. Most commercial vinyl is 54 inches (4.5 feet) wide, so one linear yard covers 13.5 square feet.
Divide the wall area in square feet by the roll width in feet to get linear feet, then divide by 3. For a 54-inch roll, a 12 ft × 9 ft wall is 108 sq ft, which is 24 linear feet or 8 linear yards before waste.
A linear yard is 3 feet (36 inches) of material measured along the length of the roll, at the roll's full width. On a 54-inch commercial roll, one linear yard covers 13.5 square feet.
The calculator adds 10% for waste by default; choose 20% or 30% for walls with many cuts, openings or large pattern repeats. Attic stock is optional extra material kept on site for future repairs.
